The blowflys lay their eggs in rotting meat, dung, carrion, and open wounds.  Also called bluebottle, they are a tenacious house guest in the Calgary area, coming in open windows and doors, cracks and holes.   Blowflys spread their germs to surfaces, food and people.  Indiscriminate eaters, the blowfly is host to disease originating from dung and rotten flesh, commonly carrying dysentery, anthrax, and jaundice.  Interestingly, the larvae of blowfly, raised in sterile conditions are used to consume dead tissue in a humans and animals to promote healing
