Pavement ants make their nests in or under cracks in pavement in the Calgary area. They can infest structures, eating almost anything, including insects, seeds, fruit, honey, bread, meats, nuts and cheese.  Like other ants, pavement ants can contaminate food with their constant foraging. Though they are not aggressive, pavement ants can bite and sting and cause a general unease to those sharing the patio with them.
